About - GOALS

Nexus Radio hopes to improve the quality of radio world wide by promoting unsigned artists who otherwise would be unheard of. We scout numerous OMD's looking for the best of the best in unsigned/independent artists to play out on our shows. We put a lot of work in each week to our shows, the site, and making connections with record companies, software companies, hardware companies, etc etc.

Our shows take on various forms with each DJ bringing his own personal style to the table.. we don't stick to normal rules or mediums and we understand that some of our shows are far too riskay for some people, however its all in good fun, were about entertaining you with great music, and whatever else we pull out of the hat that week

About - History
Wizard Sleeve, aka Joe 'the truth' Johnstone, had wanted to have his own online radio station for a while. He had put the idea forward to a couple of OMD's posted on forums trying to find some people to get it together with. For a while there was a serious lack of interest, and suddenly the net erupted with loads of Internet Radio Stations...

After a long time of not seeing a friend they met up and got drunk. That night Wiz and Quietman, aka Maik Chambers decided to put a radio show on at very short noticed, posted on Mixposure about it and had a surprisingly big audience for 2 hours notice.. after that they decided to sort out an online radio station, set to promote unsigned artist, and play the best music from a variety genres whilst also entertaining the audience with humerous quips and drunken freestyles.

The first official Nexus radio show was on the 1st of May 2006, and had many hicups but the audience loved it. The second test show proved to be much better with a heavy rock out at the begining and lots of good electronica and comedy to finish, gaining new listeners all the time. The 3rd test was the first test where they tried a live feed. Tony Sibthorpe from the Skadows did an interview and played a few of his songs and his favorite ska tracks live. The show went down a smash and from then on Sleevey has been dedicating more and more of his time to perfecting the show, raising the funds to buy more music and Equipment to enhance your listening experience.

Due to his life-style, Quietman could not afford to put any money or effort into Nexus and soon left the project to pursue his role as a map tester for battlefield 2. Wizard Sleeve began to scan the web for like minded individuals who were not only good DJ's but were dedicated to promoting unsigned artists.

In the summer of 2006 Wizard Sleeve entered a partnership with RSCain who has done so much for Nexus Radio, including doing his awesome monday night mix show, and donating his nightgrooves radio to be another stream for nexus to broadcast on, and renaming it Nexus365. Nexus 365 is no more due to rerouting all funds into the shoutcast streams to give people higher quality listening!

Please check the schedual for all show times

When not live the (hifi)128kbps stream is either playing a selection of the greatest unsigned tracks from all genres, or the robo DJ will be live doing a request show.

The sets are currantly streamed at 128kbps for broadband users and 24kbps for dial up users.

What Genres do we play?

Anything really, all DJ's Have their preference, but we play to our audience, and the genres are changing very often to keep everyone interested. If you dont like something just wait and I am sure something you do like will come on... you could always pop in the chat room and request something.

Wizard Sleeve's Favorite Genres are: DnB, Trance, Psy/Goa, and Metal

RSCain's Favorite Genres are: Blues, Funk and Rock

Matty and Stef's Favorite genres are: Industrial, Rock, Metal

Main Pie's Favorite Genres are: Blues, Funk, Rock

But as stated we all play a bit of everything!

About - How do I listen in?

First you need something that processes shoutcast streams like winamp, or itunes. Although in recent weeks people with itunes have been having toubles listening in, but as soon as they downloaded winamp free from www.winamp.com everything was alright again. I dont know why anyone would want to use itunes personally anyway.

The alternative is to use our POPUP player, which is a little plugin called the AMPX plugin.

Whatever you choose just click the Listen NOW! link at the top of the page and choose how you want to listen in. It gives you a few option, howver the Windows Media player link also works for things like FStream

Requesting a tune

If you want to request a tune from us whilst we are live check our live request page or our old style request page or in our chatroom You can email us, but we might not get it till after the show as we are very busy.

Sending tunes into the show:

If you would like to mail in one of your tunes for play please EMAIL it over to us. Make sure you are sending us something you have personally written and not ripped off.

About - Legality of Playing Singed Artists

Are we breaking any copywrite or other laws by playing unsigned artists?

NO... actually, we are not. For one the bitrate is so low that no one could actually steal the tunes and play them out anywhere, and if anything we increase the artists CD sales.

Whats more is we play 99% Unsigned artists who WANT to be played out on Nexus radio, so we only play one or two signed tracks out on request

But the reason playing those is not illeagle is because of something we discovered whilst doing Round Sound Radio in the summer of 2005

here an extract i found:

Highlights of the "Internet Radio Fairness Act" include:

Small businesses (six million dollars in gross revenue) will be exempted from the CARP fees for web radio. The royalty ruling, which was accepted by the Library of Congress, would stand for larger Web radio providers.

Read the whole article though, its good to be read up on this sort of thing. Also if any artists out there don't want us to play them please contact us on dj@nexusraido.co.uk
